Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.

- 1 Corinthians 13:4

How often have you seen a need and thought, “I want to take care of that?”

Maybe God brings someone to mind prompting you to send them a card or give them a call. Or perhaps it is something random.

You see a need, like a person in a grocery line short on cash or an older person struggling to reach something, and you step in and help them.

It’s satisfying to help. It makes you feel good.

Now let’s flip it. Have you ever felt prompted to do something for someone but let the urge pass?

Did you regret it?

I am reminded that God will accomplish His good and perfect plans, with or without me.

However, I miss the blessing when I don’t act on His urgings.

Being kind isn’t always easy. Certain things in life can test your patience and alter your mood.

For example, you may have a strained relationship with a family member or a friend, a conflict at work, or something that is just a trigger for you.

However, God calls us to be kind and patient. His Word tells us not to envy, boast or be arrogant or rude.

When we give in to our desires instead of following God’s ways, we only hurt ourselves and weigh our hearts down with things we were never intended to carry.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to be keen to the needs of those around me. Enable me to have your heart and treat others in a way that honors you. Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd
