Advent Devotional Series“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying...”

- Luke 2:13

I know of three times, in the whole of Scripture, when angels break out in spontaneous rejoicing.

The first is when God creates the world—the angels “sing and shout for joy” (Job 38:7).

Another is at Jesus' birth. Shepherds receive the news of His birth, and “suddenly,” a multitude of heavenly hosts break out praising and singing “Glory to God” (Luke 2:13-14).

And lastly, God's Word tells us that when a sinner repents, there is “rejoicing amongst the angels in heaven” (Luke 15:10).

Creation. Christ. Confession. These things invoke spontaneous joy and songs of loud praise from the heavenly hosts.

Shouldn't they demand the same from us?

Today’s Reflection & Action:

When was the last time you broke out in impromptu praise? What caused it?

There is no better time than Christmas to thank God for sending his Son Jesus so that we might be reconciled to Him. Like the angels, take time today and sing!

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains

Gloria... In excelsis Deo
Gloria... In excelsis Deo

Faithfully,
