ocean waves with rock symbolizing stability versus instability

Daily Devotional • Ephesians 4:14 • Growing Into Steady Faith

Ephesians 4:14 calls us to move beyond spiritual instability and grow into a steady, grounded faith rooted in truth.

So that we are no longer children [spiritually immature], tossed back and forth and carried about by every wind of [shifting] doctrine.

- Ephesians 4:14

Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus to guard themselves against the widely changing interpretations of doctrine.

He warned them to not get tossed around emotionally by people who spoke into their lives.

Let us Seek Christ first before we go to people, regardless of who they are.

Mentors and accountability groups cannot take the place of the Holy Spirit.

Pastors and bible study teachers are still human...growing and learning just as you are.

[You] have one Lord, ...one God and Father of us all who is [sovereign] God, all in all.

TODAY: If I am confused, let me go to my prayer room first… not my phone! God sends us mature believers so can become mature too; but His voice must remain first in all we do.

Be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. - 1 Timothy 4:6

With Love,
Paper Sunday

It’s easy to feel pulled in different directions—by opinions, emotions, and the noise around us. But this verse reminds us that maturity in faith brings steadiness.

Instead of being easily shaken, we’re invited to become rooted and grounded in truth.

Take a moment to reflect on where you might feel unsteady—and where God may be calling you to grow deeper.

Journal & Reflect

Write about areas where you want to feel more steady—and what steps could help you grow deeper in truth.

  • Where do you feel spiritually unsettled or easily influenced?
  • What voices or influences tend to pull you away from truth?
  • What would it look like to become more grounded in your faith?
  • How can you intentionally grow in discernment this week?

Prayer

Lord, Grow me into a faith that is steady and rooted in You. When I feel pulled in different directions, help me to stand firm in Your truth. Give me discernment to recognize what is from You and what is not. Shape my heart so I am no longer easily shaken, but anchored in Your Word.
Amen.

Message from Kara Heckel, founder of Paper Sunday

This verse always reminds me how easy it is to drift without even realizing it. Life gets noisy, opinions get loud, and suddenly it’s harder to tell what’s actually true.

But this kind of growth isn’t rushed—it’s formed slowly, in the daily choosing of truth over distraction.

If you’ve been feeling pulled in too many directions, I hope this brings you back to center. A steady faith isn’t built overnight, but every small step toward truth matters.
