Daily Devotional • Psalm 141:8 • Fixing Our Eyes on God

Psalm 141:8 is a powerful reminder of where our focus belongs: "But my eyes are unto thee, O God the Lord." When uncertainty, fear, or distractions compete for our attention, we can intentionally turn our gaze toward God. He is our refuge, our protector, and the One who faithfully leads us through every season.

But mine eyes are unto thee, O God the Lord; in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.

- Psalm 141:8

The Psalms are genuinely some of the most beautiful passages in the Bible. They cry out from the soul and speak to the heart.

Throughout them, we are reminded that God desires that we keep our eyes focused on Him. We are to not only focus on Him and His Word, but also trust Him.

Think of the person in your life you trust the most. How often do you see them or talk to them? How did the trust between you develop?

Most likely, you have spent a great deal of time together, sharing your struggles and joys in life.

As you spend time with someone, a relationship develops, and trust is gained and deepened. It is much the same way with the Lord. He desires to spend time with you. His Word is His love language to you so that you get to know Him and His heart for you.

When you feel no one cares for you or the trial is just too hard to endure, take a breath and remember that God is there.

He promises to love you, care for you and provide for you. He is trustworthy and just, and He is waiting to hear from you today and share His thoughts with you as well.

Prayer: Lord, keep my eyes on you today. Help me to spend time in your presence and your Word so that my relationship with you will grow strong. Amen. Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd

Life has a way of pulling our attention in countless directions. Concerns about the future, current challenges, and endless distractions can easily shift our focus away from God's presence and promises. Psalm 141:8 invites us to look upward instead—to place our trust in the One who never changes. As you journal today, reflect on what has been occupying your thoughts and where God may be inviting you to fix your eyes more fully on Him.

Journal & Reflect

  • What circumstances have been competing for your attention lately?
  • How does focusing on God change your perspective on your current challenges?
  • Where do you need God's protection, wisdom, or guidance right now?

Prayer

Father, Thank You for being my refuge and my steady source of hope. When distractions, worries, and uncertainties pull at my attention, help me lift my eyes to You. Remind me that You are faithful, trustworthy, and always present. Guide my thoughts, strengthen my faith, and help me keep my focus on Your promises rather than my fears. Thank You for leading me with wisdom and surrounding me with Your peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Message from Kara

There are seasons when it feels like life is demanding our attention from every direction. Responsibilities pile up, worries creep in, and before we know it, our focus shifts from God's promises to our problems. That's why I love Psalm 141:8. It's a simple but powerful reminder that we always have a choice about where we direct our gaze. When we look to God first, we find peace that circumstances can't provide and confidence that doesn't depend on having all the answers. If you're feeling distracted, overwhelmed, or uncertain today, I encourage you to pause and intentionally turn your eyes toward Him. His faithfulness has not changed, and His presence is with you right where you are. Praying that your heart finds renewed peace and perspective as you keep your eyes fixed on the Lord. With love, Kara
