Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
- Psalm 34:8
God is good. We hear and say this all the time, but what does it really mean?
God’s goodness conveys His character and who He is. All throughout scripture we find many verses praising the goodness of God. There is no one like our God, therefore there is no one as good as God either.
“No one is good but One, that is, God.” Mark 10:18
The immeasurable goodness of God can be seen in His many attributes.
• God is merciful.
• God is just.
• God is gracious.
• God is long-suffering.
• God is powerful.
• God is abounding in truth.
• God is faithful.
• God is loving.
And much, much more!
If someone were to make an accurate list of God’s goodness, they’d be writing forever. God’s goodness is immeasurable and unending because He is an unending god. His character and who He is, is perfect. 1 John 1:5 says, “God is light, in Him there is no darkness at all.”
Sometimes we get so caught up in what's in God’s hands and what He can do for us rather than His goodness and who He is. We shouldn’t love God for the things we get from Him, we should love God for His goodness and for who He is.
Today, take time to recognize and praise God for His goodness. When we rejoice and honor Him for who He is, His joy that is our strength flows easier into our spirit and the refreshment of His presence will permeate our beings!
“Lord, thank you for your unending goodness! Help me to focus on who you are instead of what’s in your hands.”
