God Loves Guacamole!

At Paper Sunday, we have some really exciting news to share - something that my fellow Texans will truly appreciate. Are you ready for this? God loves guacamole!

And, he loves queso!  And, if he came to dinner, I don't think he'd turn down a good glass of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir or a cold mug of Belgian Pale Ale.

Most likely he’s a fan of Willie, and I know he’s a fan of Grandma’s homemade apple pie.

Here’s the point.   All of life’s pleasures – good food, good wine, great music, sex – they were God’s idea.  He came up with them first. “He created all things in heaven and on earth”   Colossians 1:16.

I think people sometimes have the idea that ‘giving your life to Jesus’ means giving up all of life’s enjoyment.  Follow God and you might as well call it a day. Hopefully, the second coming of Jesus is right around the corner and He can rapture us right out of our new found misery. Party. Is. Over.

But that simply isn’t true. The word says, “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance.”  John 10:10

So, those hobbies you love, the foods you crave, the experiences you enjoy, don’t stop.  Live life to the fullest!  Party! On! In fact, stay for the after party.

But, here’s the second part of that truth.  And this is very important to get.  Those hobbies, foods, and experiences, they won’t satisfy... at least, not for long.  When we try and enjoy creation without the Creator, life’s pleasures will always come up short.  To truly experience life to the fullest – that ‘life abundant’ that God promises - we need Him. So as you start each day, I encourage you to invite Him to be a part of it.  He is truly the best party guest you can have… and, after all, He loves guacamole!

Paper Sunday’s Classic Guacamole Recipe:

14 cup chopped cilantro, divided

2 tbsp. finely chopped white onion

12 tsp. kosher salt

12 fresh serrano chile, stemmed and finely chopped

1 lb. avocados (about 2 small), halved and pitted

2 tbsp. fresh lime juice

Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions:

Mash half the cilantro, the onion, salt, and serrano into a paste in a mortar and pestle. Scoop out the flesh of the avocado and roughly chop; add to mortar along with remaining cilantro and lime juice and lightly mash. Serve with tortilla chips.
