“...the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints.”
- Colossians 1:26
When I was a kid, we always watched the show “Murder She Wrote” starring Angela Lansbury.
Every episode left the viewer trying to put together the clues unveiled throughout the show to determine who committed the crime.
In our house, my mom would always guess it without fail. She had an uncanny ability to see where the show was headed.
Invariably, she would point at the TV and pronounce who did it...mystery solved.
Scripture is filled with clues in the form of harbingers, prophecies, and symbols that God would send the Messiah.
Luke records Zechariah's song, a “who did it” of sorts, starting with a birth and culminating at the death/resurrection of Christ.
“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us...” - Luke 2:69-71
The mystery revealed was a long-coming redemption... “he has visited and redeemed...”
The mystery revealed was a long-coming ruler... “a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David...”
The mystery revealed was a long-coming rescue... “saved from our enemies.”
Redemption. Ruler. Rescue. Mystery solved! It was Jesus all along!
Today: Do you have a favorite Old Testament prophecy about the coming of Christ?
Memorize one of the prophecies and share the verse(s) with your family or a friend.
Faithfully,
