For God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control.
- 2 Timothy 1:7
What happens when you feel fear?
Do you want to flee, or do you freeze? Are your fears the unfounded lies of the enemy?
So often, those things that cause us fear are untruths we tell ourselves or those whispered by the enemy.
Allowing those feelings to creep up can cause us to worry. Those fears can even cause us to ignore or put off what scares us.
But God wants us to put our trust in Him, desiring that we lean on Him for all the tasks He has called us to do.
As you begin your day today, is there something God is calling to you that you don’t feel strong enough or intelligent enough to handle?
Whatever you are putting off or ignoring because of fear, God is able to do far above all we ask or can imagine.
In our weakness, He is strong!
Prayer: Dear Jesus, please be with me today and help me to rest in you. Remove any negative and false thoughts thrown at me by the enemy. Amen.
With Love,
Sherry Shepherd
Fear can quietly influence the way we think, the choices we make, and the things we avoid. But God invites us to bring our worries to Him instead of carrying them alone. As you move into your journaling time, give yourself permission to be honest about what feels frightening or uncertain. Reflect on how God's power, love, and self-control can help you take your next step with faith, even when fear hasn't completely disappeared.
Journal & Reflect
- What fear has been influencing my decisions? Write honestly about a worry or uncertainty that has been weighing on your heart.
- Where am I relying on my own strength? What might it look like to trust God's power instead of trying to control every outcome?
- How can I choose love over fear? Is there a relationship or situation where fear is keeping me from responding with love?

This verse reminds believers that God equips them with power, love, and self-control rather than a spirit ruled by fear. It encourages us to rely on His strength and live with courage and wisdom.
Does 2 Timothy 1:7 mean Christians should never feel afraid?

What does “a sound mind” mean in 2 Timothy 1:7?
Many translations use the phrase “sound mind,” while others use “self-control” or “self-discipline.” The idea includes thoughtful judgment, discipline, and the ability to respond with wisdom rather than being controlled by fear.
How can I trust God when I feel anxious or overwhelmed?

How can journaling help me work through fear?
Journaling gives you space to identify what you're afraid of, recognize how fear may be shaping your choices, and reflect on God's promises. Writing a prayer or a Scripture alongside your worries can help you focus on a faithful next step.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You know the fears I carry and the worries that sometimes feel bigger than my faith. Help me remember that I don't have to face them in my own strength. Fill me with Your power to take the next step, Your love to guide the way I treat others, and Your wisdom to respond with a steady heart. When fear returns, remind me of Your truth and help me place my concerns in Your hands.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Message from Kara
We all have moments when fear gets loud. Sometimes it shows up as worry about the future, sometimes as hesitation to take the next step, and sometimes as trying to control things that were never ours to carry.
When that happens, I hope you'll remember the truth in 2 Timothy 1:7. God doesn't ask you to manufacture courage on your own. He invites you to lean on His power, live from His love, and ask Him for wisdom in the moments when you feel overwhelmed.
You don't have to wait until every fear disappears to move forward. Take one small step, bring your worries to God, and let His truth remind you that fear doesn't get the final word.
I'm cheering you on as you keep choosing faith, one day at a time.
With Love,
Kara
