Daily Devotional • Ephesians 2:19 • You Belong in God’s Family

You are not an outsider. Ephesians 2:19 reminds us that in Christ, we belong—fully welcomed into God’s family and His greater purpose.

So then you are no longer strangers and [outsiders], you are fellow citizens with the saints (God’s people), and are [now] of God’s household.

- Ephesians 2:19

With salvation we not only become restored to the Kingdom of God, but we are born into the body of Christ.

We now have brothers and sisters in God’s people.

You may have been alone at times in your life, but God intends to fill those places of loss or loneliness with His Holy Spirit.

He gives many of us the acceptance we’ve never had and the experience of family through fellowship with other believers.

Feeling alone is part of the human experience but...your feelings aren’t the facts!

TODAY: You chose me, you adopted me. You call me your bride as an individual and as part of the body of Christ.

In Him [and in fellowship with one another] you are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. Ephesians 2:22

With Love,
Paper Sunday

Belonging is something we all long for, yet it’s easy to feel like we’re on the outside looking in. Sit with this truth for a moment: you are not a stranger to God. Let that sink in as you take time to reflect.

Journal & Reflect

  • Where in your life do you feel like an outsider or “not enough”?
  • How does knowing you are part of God’s household change the way you see yourself?
  • What does true belonging in Christ look like in your daily life?
  • How can you extend that same sense of welcome and belonging to others today?

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to no longer be a stranger in Ephesians 2:19?

It means that through Christ, we are no longer separated from God. We are welcomed into a close, personal relationship as members of His family.

What is the “household of God”?

The household of God refers to the community of believers—those who are united in Christ and share in His promises.

Why do I still feel like I don’t belong sometimes?

Feelings don’t always reflect truth. Even when emotions say otherwise, God’s Word reminds us that our belonging is secure in Him.

How can I live like I belong to God’s family?

By embracing your identity in Christ, staying connected to Him, and loving others as part of that same family.

Prayer

Lord, Thank You for welcoming me into Your family. When I feel like I don’t belong, remind me that I am no longer a stranger to You. Help me to live with confidence in my place in Your kingdom and to rest in the truth that I am fully known and fully accepted. Teach me to extend that same love and belonging to others. Amen.

Message from Kara Heckel, founder of Paper Sunday

This verse feels especially close to my heart because there have been seasons where I’ve felt out of place—like I didn’t quite fit anywhere. But Ephesians 2:19 gently reminds me that with God, there’s no such thing as being on the outside. If you’ve been carrying that quiet feeling of not belonging, I hope this devotional meets you right there. You have a place—not because you earned it, but because He made room for you. And that kind of belonging changes everything. I’m really grateful you’re here, walking through this journey with us.
