- Genesis 39:4
Joseph did not take God's favor for granted.
God's favor spurred on Joseph's faithfulness.
Joseph served with integrity and great faithfulness as he labored in Potiphar's house. So great was his integrity and faithfulness that his master took notice (39:3) and eventually promoted him (39:4).
Joseph's integrity under Potiphar is summed up in verse 6; "[Potiphar] did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate."
Literally, the Hebrew says, Potiphar "did not know what was in his house."
He did not need to; Joseph was running things! Joseph's integrity and faithfulness made him know—what are you known for?
Are you known as the most trustworthy employee in your office? A faithful member of your Church? Would your boss entrust you with his checkbook? Can people trust you to be on time; to keep your word, and follow orders?
When God gets about His business of affecting the world and attracting unbelievers to himself, it is ordinarily not missionaries, priests, and pastors He uses.
God uses the everyday, common, high integrity, faithful men and women—the Josephs of the world—for gospel advancement and Kingdom influence!
Faithfully,
Pastor Chris
