- Genesis 37:9
Mark Twain once said that "the two most important days of your life are the day you are born, and the day you discover why."
Joseph does not know it yet, but his "why" is salvation.
Through God's sovereignty and providence, Joseph will save his family and his people.
Joseph is a ‘kind of Christ,’ pointing to a greater Savior that is to come.
What does it mean that God is sovereign? That God is a providential God?
- God is sovereign means that God cannot be stopped. God will do whatever He wants to do. Whatever He plans, whatever He decrees, whatever He wills; all that He determines will always come to pass. His will and good purposes cannot be stopped.
- That God is a providential God means He provides. Everything that is needed for His will to come to pass, He provides for. And not only does He provide, but the term means He has already provided; He provides beforehand. Providence is God giving us everything we need to carry out His plan before we even knew we needed it.
Joseph has a dream. The sun (his dad), the moon (his mom), and the stars (his family) will bow down before him. Joseph will be their savior. He doesn't know how, where, or when, but it's coming (Genesis 41:53-57).
Here is what I want you to hear today: Keep the faith. Press on. God's sovereign purposes are working in your life. You probably can't see it; you don't know how, or where, but it is working. And everything you need on your journey of discovery… He has already provided!
Press on,
Pastor Harp
