Fluttering Blue Butterflies in an Evening Light in the Forest

Daily Devotional • John 3:16 • Love Beyond Measure

John 3:16 reveals the heart of the Gospel: a God who loves so deeply that He gave His Son for our salvation. Today, reflect on the gift of God's love and what it means to live as someone fully known, fully loved, and eternally secure in Christ.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

- John 3:16

As God’s child, you are a new creation.

Did you know that a caterpillar and butterfly’s DNA are the same? The caterpillar only needs to go through the difficulties of the cocoon to mature and emerge as a butterfly.

Before long, the caterpillar isn’t crawling on the ground; it is soaring through the air on beautiful wings.

That is what Jesus does for us.

He gives us a new life.

He sets us free.

Like the caterpillar, we become a new creation when we accept Christ into our lives.

To help us better understand, God gives us a new identity. He calls us, His children.

Just like the caterpillar becomes a butterfly, we become God’s children empowered with His Holy Spirit.

When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we have a new identity in Him. We are loved, forgiven, and accepted into God’s family.

In addition, God gives us the Holy Spirit to comfort and be with us.

  • Hebrews 13:5 tells us that God will never leave us or forsake us.
  • Romans 8:38-39 tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
  • In Proverbs 18:24, we are told that Jesus sticks closer to us than a brother would. As His friend, we can always count on Him.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for loving and accepting me. I love you, Lord, Amen!

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd

God's love isn't something we earn—it is something we receive. John 3:16 reminds us that before we ever reached for God, He reached for us. As you spend time reflecting today, consider how His love has shaped your life, strengthened your faith, and drawn you closer to Him. Take a few moments to write honestly about where you've experienced His love and where you need to trust it more deeply.

Prayer

Father,
Thank You for loving me more than I can fully comprehend. Thank You for sending Jesus so that I could know forgiveness, freedom, and eternal life through Him. Help me live each day rooted in the truth that I am deeply loved by You. When doubts arise, remind me of the cross. When fear tries to take hold, remind me of Your promises. Teach me to receive Your love fully and share it generously with others.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Message from Kara

John 3:16 is one of those verses we may have heard hundreds of times, but its truth never grows old. The God who created the universe loves you personally, completely, and intentionally. My prayer is that today you would pause long enough to truly receive that love—not just as a verse you've memorized, but as a reality that changes how you see yourself and your future. You are deeply loved.

With love and gratitude,
Kara  🤍
