The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
- Proverbs 1:7
The Lord delights in those who fear Him and put their trust in His unfailing love.
What does it mean to fear the Lord?
This is a concept often misunderstood by those who do not know God.
Some think it means we must be terrified of God viewing Him as an angry old man in the sky just waiting to strike us down with lightning. How far from the truth this is!
To fear the Lord means to have reverence, awe, worship, adoration and submission to His will.
By exchanging our ways for His way, our thoughts for His thoughts, and our goals for His goals, we are living in submission to God.
Those who do not have fear for the Lord are fools.
The fool described in Proverbs is someone who hates true wisdom and has no desire to acquire revelation knowledge that only comes by fearing the Lord and submitting to Him.
By living in obedience to God in reverence and search for His wisdom, we are able to cross the threshold of true knowledge. We come out of darkness into wisdom’s light by the fear of the Lord!
“And if you look for it as for silver and search for it as hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:4-5
Today, how can you live your life exhibiting fear for the Lord? When your lifestyle displays this Biblical reverence and awe, know that the Lord takes delight in you!
“Lord, may I always live in reverence and awe of you. Help me to always exchange my own goals for yours and align myself with your ways. I trust in your unfailing love!”
