“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
- 2 Corinthians 5:17
Let this scripture wash over you and fill you with excitement today!
So often we hear or read this verse, especially when a new year comes around. However, we shouldn’t just let this verse go in one ear and out the other.
God has created you as a new creation in Christ with the newness of his transformative work in you replacing the old you!
This transformative work that He is doing in you will further grow as you continue to grow in Him.
As we put off our old life, old habits and behaviors, we will blossom into the beautiful creation God destined us to be! This scripture in Ephesians also encourages us with this by saying:
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” – Ephesians 4:22-24
In order to grow into the newness of God’s transformative work in us, we must take action to “put on” the new self every day!
Every morning, we put on our clothes and fix our hair in order to freshen and gird ourselves up for the day ahead. In the spiritual sense, we need to put on the armor of God and gird ourselves up with the new self and new attitude of Christ if we really want to see change take place in our lives.
As you continue to step further into the new year, take time to reflect on any old ways the Lord is calling you to let go of. As you allow God to do His transformative work in you, the more you will become like Him and bloom into the beautiful creation He designed you to be!
With Love,
Sarah Sherstad
