Daily Devotional • Ephesians 2:10 • Created with Purpose

It's easy to question our value or wonder if our lives truly matter. Ephesians 2:10 offers a powerful reminder that we are God's workmanship—carefully created by Him with intention and purpose. You are not an accident, an afterthought, or overlooked by God. He designed you uniquely and prepared meaningful work for you to do, all for His glory.

We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

- Ephesians 2:10

Have you ever read a beautiful poem that really stood out to you?

What about a beautiful painting that left you awe-struck so much that you couldn't look away?

Whether you’re a poetry fan or not, in the Greek language, it uses a beautiful word for workmanship that translates to “poem” or “poetry.”

This means your life is poetry in motion, handwritten by God Himself that goes forth and accomplishes all He desires in your life!

How cool is that?

So the next time you feel like your life is bland, or you yourself are bland, remind yourself that you are literally God’s poetry.

As we yield to His will for our lives, we get to see this beautiful poetry unfold before our very eyes.

Whether you realize it or not, you are God’s masterpiece of workmanship.

Before you were even born, He knew you and saw what He wanted to accomplish through you.

He took time to handcraft everything about you and the story of your life here on earth.

The more you pursue Him and allow the Holy Spirit to inwardly transform you, the more you become a vessel for His glory and you will see His good works through you!

People will take one look at you and notice something is different, because the artistic and poetic signature of God’s touch is anointed over your life!

Prayer: Lord, what a wonderful artist and poet you are. Help me to yield to you, Lord, for I want to be a vessel of your glory, good works, and display your amazing love to others through my life!

With Love,
Sarah Sherstad

Many of us spend time searching for our purpose, wondering if we're making a difference or walking in the right direction. Yet Ephesians 2:10 begins with a beautiful truth: our identity comes before our assignment. We are God's workmanship, created by Him and for Him. As you journal today, reflect on how God has uniquely shaped your life and where He may be inviting you to serve, grow, and trust Him more fully.

Journal & Reflect

  • What does it mean to you that you are God's workmanship?

  • Are there areas where you've questioned your value or purpose?

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Ephesians 2:10 mean?

This verse teaches that believers are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared in advance. It emphasizes both our identity in Christ and our purpose in serving Him.

What does it mean to be God's workmanship?

The word workmanship reflects something carefully crafted by an artist. God intentionally created each person with unique gifts, abilities, and purpose.

How do I discover God's purpose for my life?

Spend time seeking God through prayer, Scripture, and obedience. Often God's purpose unfolds one faithful step at a time rather than through a single moment of clarity.

Do good works earn God's love?

No. Salvation is a gift of grace through faith. Good works are the result of our relationship with God, not the cause of it.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for creating me with purpose and intention. Help me remember that my value comes from being Your workmanship, not from my accomplishments or the opinions of others. Show me how You have uniquely gifted me and give me the courage to walk faithfully in the good works You have prepared for me. Strengthen my faith, guide my steps, and help me use my life to reflect Your love and glory. Thank You for designing my story with care and purpose.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Message from Kara

There have been times in my life when I wondered if what I was doing really mattered. Maybe you've felt that way too. It's easy to compare ourselves to others or question whether we're making a meaningful impact.

That's why I love Ephesians 2:10.

This verse reminds us that before we ever accomplish anything, we belong to God. We are His workmanship—carefully designed, deeply loved, and intentionally created.

What encourages me most is knowing that God doesn't ask us to figure everything out on our own. He has already prepared opportunities for us to serve Him and reflect His love. Our role is simply to walk faithfully with Him and trust that He will guide our steps.

If you've been questioning your purpose lately, remember this: God created you on purpose, for a purpose. Your life matters because it matters to Him.

Praying that you'll walk confidently in the unique calling God has placed on your life and trust the beautiful work He is doing through you.

With love, Kara  🤍
