Daily Devotional • Matthew 5:9

In a world filled with conflict and division, Jesus offers a different path. Matthew 5:9 declares, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Peacemaking is more than avoiding conflict—it's actively reflecting God's love, grace, and reconciliation in our relationships and daily lives.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

- Matthew 5:9

What does it mean to be blessed?

To be blessed and to bless others means that no matter what the circumstances are, you hold onto hope.

It isn’t something any of us can do on our own. The only possible way to have that kind of hope is to place our hope in Christ alone.

Our future is secure because we know Him.

So no matter what else is happening, our eyes are fixed on Jesus and the eternity that we will spend with Him.

So how do we become peacemakers? Who is our role model?

Christ was the ultimate peacemaker. He secured our eternal freedom through His death and resurrection.

He opened the door to a relationship with our heavenly Father, providing us a pardon for our sins.

He bridged the gap so that we might experience abundant life in Him.

He desires that all know Him and have a relationship with Him.

As His children, we are to be a shining example of His love for others.

Peacemakers in the Bible know that justice is coupled with righteousness.

Therefore, they stand up for what is right, good, and just.

As you begin your day today, are you focused on the things that bring you power and fortune? Or are you focused on those things that reflect the sacrifice of Christ?

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to reflect on your kingdom. Let those things of the world fall away and replace them with the things that truly matter. Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd

Being a peacemaker often requires humility, courage, and a willingness to extend grace even when it's difficult. Jesus teaches that those who pursue peace reflect the character of their Heavenly Father. As you spend time journaling today, invite God to reveal where He may be calling you to bring healing, understanding, or reconciliation.

Journal & Reflect

  • Where in my life am I experiencing tension, conflict, or unresolved hurt?
  • How might God be inviting me to become a peacemaker in this situation?
  • Is there someone I need to forgive, encourage, or approach with grace?

You can practice peacemaking by listening well, extending forgiveness, choosing kindness, praying for others, and pursuing healthy reconciliation when possible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being a God of peace and reconciliation. Through Jesus, You made a way for us to be restored to You, and You call us to reflect that same peace in our relationships. Show me where I can bring grace instead of division, understanding instead of judgment, and healing instead of hurt. Give me wisdom in difficult conversations, humility when I am wrong, and courage to pursue peace even when it feels challenging. May my words and actions point others toward Your love and truth.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Message from Kara

One of the most challenging and rewarding callings as followers of Christ is to be peacemakers. It often requires patience, humility, and a willingness to love others the way Jesus loves us.

Matthew 5:9 reminds us that peacemaking isn't simply about keeping the peace—it's about reflecting God's heart in our relationships and communities. Whether God is calling you to extend forgiveness, have a difficult conversation, or simply show kindness where it's needed, trust that He will equip you for the task.

My prayer today is that you would experience God's peace personally and become a source of that same peace for others.

Praying for you,
Kara
