In this chapter of Hosea, the Lord is speaking to the tribes of Ephraim and Judah. They had sadly broken their covenant with God.

Instead of choosing to be steadfast and loyal in their love for Him, they relied on sacrifices to be enough.

Even though God wanted to bless them and show them mercy, they rejected His love.

As a result, instead of receiving the abundance of their inheritance in obeying and knowing Him, they harvested their own punishment. How much this must have grieved the heart of God!

Even back in the Old Testament, God wanted to know His people on a personal level and share His love for them as well as receive theirs in return.

Now, in the new covenant in Christ, He has paved the way for us to come before His throne of grace freely. Since Jesus took our place as the ultimate sacrifice, He has restored us back to the Father so that we may enjoy His extravagant love.

Like the tribes of Ephraim and Judah, at times we have unknowingly refused His love because we thought doing something else in place of our relationship with Him would be better.

At the end of the day, He longs to simply know you.

He does not desire religious deeds which can often cause pridefulness, nor does He want empty rituals… void of all authenticity.

As you let the Holy Spirit speak to you personally through this verse today, recognize the affection in His voice. He longs to shower you with new mercies.

TODAY: Lay aside religiosity, and put your relationship with Him above all, for He longs to delight in dutiful steadfast love and goodness for you.
