“Jesus wept.”

- John 11:35

I love this verse.

You may think a verse about Christ weeping is odd, but this verse shows Christ’s humanity.

In this passage, Jesus comes to see Mary and Martha, who have just recently lost their brother Lazarus. Jesus knew Mary and Martha were sad over Lazarus’ death.

But what I find so interesting is that He doesn’t try to dry their tears, or offer them short, trite clichés.

Instead, He weeps with them and sits with them in their grief.

Likewise, even though Jesus knew Lazarus was going to be raised from the dead, He was present with Mary in her moment of need and didn’t try to diminish her feelings. Oh, how I love that!

Whatever you are going through today, Christ wants to be with you and comfort you through it.

While we know we will spend eternity with Jesus; some days are more challenging and complex to get through than others. Sometimes, we just need to cry out and work through our emotions. Jesus understands this so well; He captures our tears in a bottle.

No matter what you are facing today, God is there. He understands it and comforts you through it. When Christ came to Mary, who was overcome with grief, He asked her where she had laid Lazarus.

So likewise, He desires you to tell Him where your hurt is too.

He is willing to go with you to the places it resides, so that He can help you through it. He isn’t shocked by your pain, emotions, doubts, or fears. Instead, He tells each of us to come to Him.

Prayer: Jesus, please heal my brokenness. Please give me your comfort as I walk through this difficult time. Amen.

With Love,
Paper Sunday
