Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but you do it to get a crown that will last forever.
- 1 Corinthians 9:25
What exactly is wisdom?
The world we live in is always in a constant rush and rat-race to climb to the top. You will even encounter people willing to trample over you and cheat their way through in hopes of gaining the success and self-glorification they so desperately crave.
Sadly, the crown the secular world seeks will perish and fade away like dust. However, in the Kingdom of God, this is not so.
God promises us the crown of Life.
Unlike a trophy or wreath, this crown will last forever! Any earthly prize the world offers will pale in comparison to His crown and heavenly reward.
When we become worn down by the race of life, we can also remember the crown of Righteousness He has secured for us. This reminds us how it is His righteousness that has saved us, solidifying our place in Heaven alongside Him.
When it seems like trial after trial is coming at you, keep your focus on the Lord. Remind yourself of His promised crown of Life that will only be rewarded to those who truly love Him!
With Love,

What does 1 Corinthians 9:25 mean?
In this verse, Paul compares the Christian life to an athletic competition. Athletes train with discipline to win a temporary prize, but believers pursue an eternal reward that never fades.
Why does Paul use the image of athletes?
The city of Corinth hosted major athletic games, so the audience easily understood the idea of strict training and perseverance. Paul used this familiar imagery to illustrate spiritual discipline and dedication.
What is the “crown that lasts forever”?
The crown symbolizes eternal rewards from God—such as the crown of life, righteousness, and glory—given to those who faithfully follow Christ.
How can Christians practice spiritual discipline today?
Spiritual discipline can include prayer, studying Scripture, serving others, and making daily choices that align with God’s purposes rather than temporary desires.
Prayer
Lord, Thank You for reminding me that the race of faith is not about temporary rewards but about pursuing what lasts forever. Help me live with discipline, focus, and a heart that seeks You above everything else. When I feel distracted by the things of this world, guide my steps back to Your purpose. Give me the strength to keep running with endurance and the faith to trust that the crown You promise is worth every step. Amen.
