Elijah reached a point where he believed he was completely alone. He had refused to worship Baal, and because of his decision, the Israelites wanted to kill him. He had faithfully followed God, yet he found himself exhausted, discouraged, and afraid.
He told God, "I am the only one left." But Elijah wasn't seeing the whole picture. Isn’t that how we are at times? We exaggerate or catastrophize things, not because we are being dishonest, but because things really feel that dire to us.
What is so beautiful about God’s relationship with Elijah is that God doesn’t humiliate Elijah for his feelings. He gently reminds him that thousands had remained faithful, and He sends Elijah back home with a plan. Sometimes purpose can feel lonely because we don't see the people God has working alongside us. You may feel like you're carrying something no one understands. You may wonder why your obedience feels like it has separated you from others. But being alone in a moment doesn't mean you're alone in the mission. God sees the whole picture, and He knows the people you haven’t met yet. He knows how everything will work out and how your faithfulness might encourage others watching your situation play out.
So don’t give up. Don't abandon your calling simply because the road feels lonely. God is with you every step of the way!
