“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”
- Joel 2:12 ESV
Notable people in the Bible fasted, and during that time, miracles happened.
If the Bible puts so much emphasis on this, we should pay attention!
It is important to understand fasting. Fasting includes prayer.
Why is God interested in fasting?
Fasting is the evidence of returning to God. Giving him your heart and coming back to him. Fasting is a language of God.
Fasting is something that God has ordained. When you fast, you break down your flesh and build up your spirit. It’s returning yourself to God.
Fasting requires total reliance on God. The Bible says Man shall not live on bread alone. In fasting you are humbling yourself before the Lord.
Psalm 35:13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting: and my prayer returned into my own bosom.
Fasting is getting on your knees with your soul. It’s a desire to grow close with God. Fasting helps you to focus on God. Fasting removes pride.
Make adjustments in your life in order to build yourself up in the Lord.
Father,
When I fast, help me to rely on you. I humble myself before you Lord. May I break down my flesh with fasting to build up my spirit, in you.
Thank you, Father. In Jesus Name,
Amen.
With Love,
Corrin
