Something is discouraging about planting a seed and seeing nothing happen. You put it in the ground and water it. You wait. And the soil looks the same. This happened with a peach seed my dad and I planted. We did everything right and yet not a single solid sprout—zip, zero. However, I took seeds from a green bell pepper and planted those, and they popped up almost overnight.
In both cases, I did everything right, yet the outcomes were different. One plant grew, and the other didn’t. Faith can feel like both of these scenarios. You pray. You serve. You encourage and forgive. You keep showing up. And sometimes you wonder whether any of it matters because you don’t see any fruit being yielded.
But Paul tells us not to grow weary in doing good because there will be a harvest. The problem is that we want to see the harvest immediately. However, God often asks us to trust Him with the timing. No farmer digs up a seed every morning to see whether it's growing. They plant it and trust the process.
What if that's what God is asking you to do? Maybe He is telling you to keep praying for your loved one, keep serving at your church, or take care of that sick friend or family member. Maybe He is telling you to keep loving, keep going, keep believing, and keep planting those seeds. You may not see the fruit today. But that doesn't mean your obedience is wasted. Some seeds take years to grow.
Some prayers are answered long after we stop praying them, and words change some lives we said and completely forgot. Your job isn't to control the harvest. It is to be faithful with the seed.
Prayer: Jesus, help me keep going when I can't see the harvest. Give me endurance to keep doing what is right and faith to trust You with the results. Remind me that no act of obedience done for You is ever wasted. Amen.
