“But be doers of the Word, not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror, for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”  - James 1:22–25 NKJV

We are to look into the spiritual mirror — the Word of God.

We also allow the Word to read us as we read the Word.

The mirror reflects our image and reveals His image. People who look into the mirror understand that the mirror also speaks to us – the Word is living (Hebrews 4:12).

The mirror reflects what needs to be cleaned up, adjusted, and changed in us. The mirror also reveals what must be removed and what needs to be added.

Our image is transformed through what we hear and understand from God’s Word. Daily challenges can negatively affect our character and our behavior. But the more we look into God’s Word, the more we are reminded of God’s promises and see God’s ability to transform our lives.

The Word is living and powerful, and the Word of God differs from all other books. As we regularly read God’s Word, we become impassioned and active in becoming more like Jesus.

And we all, with unveiled faces, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit. (II Corinthians 3:18, AMP)

Take the challenge to read God’s Word consistently.

Why?

Because reading the Word of God is one of the primary ways that will accelerate your spiritual growth and become more like Christ.

Blessings,
Thomas
