Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
- Matthew 5:6
Do you ever wonder why life isn’t like a Hallmark movie? Do you ever wish it was?
Things always seem to work out perfectly for the characters in those movies. But that isn’t life. Life is tough sometimes. And when you seek the wrong things, it just leaves you wanting more to fill the void.
However, God’s word tells us that when we give thanks to Him and turn our hearts to Him, we find fulfillment. His word is His love letter to us. It is living and new every day. He wants you to invest time in it. He wants to meet your heart’s desires at the deepest level of your soul.
God’s presence is always with you. His ways are higher than your ways.
To know Him, you must spend time with Him.
Today what are you thirsting for? Spend time with the living God of the universe and thirst no more. He desires to spend time with you!
With Love,
Sherry Shepherd
It’s easy to spend our days chasing the things we think will make us feel fulfilled, only to discover that the satisfaction doesn’t last. Jesus invites us to seek something deeper: a life rooted in God and a heart that longs for His truth. As you move into your journaling time, pause and consider what has been filling your heart lately. What are you reaching for when you feel empty, restless, or discouraged? Bring those longings honestly to God and make room for Him to meet you there.
Journal & Reflect
- Where have I been looking for satisfaction outside of God? Are there habits, achievements, relationships, or distractions I’ve been relying on to fill an emptiness?
- What does seeking righteousness look like in my everyday life? How can I align my choices, priorities, and relationships more closely with God's truth?
- When have I felt closest to God? What helped me become more aware of His presence during that season?
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Matthew 5:6 mean?
Matthew 5:6 is one of Jesus’ Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount. It teaches that those who deeply desire righteousness—living in alignment with God's character and ways—are blessed, and God promises to satisfy that spiritual longing.
What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness?
It means desiring God's truth and goodness with the same intensity as someone who needs food or water. It involves wanting to grow in faith, live with integrity, pursue justice, and reflect God's character in everyday life.
How can God satisfy my deepest needs?
God offers a relationship with Him, spiritual nourishment through His Word, and guidance for how to live. This doesn't mean life will always feel easy or that every desire will be fulfilled exactly as we hope. It means we can seek Him as the lasting foundation for our lives.
Why do worldly things sometimes leave us feeling empty?
Achievements, possessions, approval, and entertainment can bring temporary enjoyment, but they cannot fully answer our deepest spiritual needs. Jesus invites us to build our lives around something more lasting: knowing God and pursuing His ways.
How can I grow in my desire for God?
Begin with small, consistent steps. Spend time reading Scripture, talk honestly with God in prayer, reflect on what you are learning, and connect with others who encourage your faith. Ask God to deepen your desire to know Him, even when your feelings fluctuate.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You know the longings of my heart, even the ones I struggle to put into words. Forgive me for the times I look to the world to satisfy what only You can truly fill. Give me a deeper hunger for Your Word, Your truth, and Your presence. Help me seek what is good, live with integrity, and trust You when I feel restless or empty. Draw me closer to You each day, and teach me to find lasting fulfillment in knowing You.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Message from Kara
Have you ever spent so much time chasing something you thought would make you happy, only to find that the feeling didn't last?
I've been reminded that the world offers plenty of things to fill our time and capture our attention, but our hearts were made for something deeper. Jesus invites us to seek Him—not just when we need help, but because knowing Him is one of the greatest gifts we can experience.
If you've been feeling restless or a little empty lately, let that be an invitation to draw near to God. You don't need perfect words or a perfect routine. Start with a few quiet moments in His Word, an honest prayer, or a simple journal entry about what's on your heart.
My prayer is that you'll discover the deep satisfaction that comes from seeking Him, one day at a time.
With Love,
Kara 🤍
