Daily Devotional • Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.  - Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.

- Proverbs 19:21

This past week, our pastor spoke about holy interruptions, when God interrupts our lives to fulfill a divine purpose. Most of us experience disruption daily, so how do we know if an interruption is holy?

An interruption can be seen as holy when it serves a higher purpose from God. For example, interruptions allow us to break free from a rut or move forward. Other interruptions can knock the breath out of us. “You have cancer.” “Your position has been outsourced.” “I no longer love you, and I’m leaving.”

Holy interruptions are almost like stepping into knee-deep mud. Initially, you might feel stuck, scared, and unable to decide what to do next. But God can use these situations to get our attention and move us forward in a direction we never considered. He may also use these situations to increase our faith and trust in Him.

Each of us can think of a time when something happened that left us feeling shocked, scared, or even angry. As the dust settles and we move towards what’s next, it’s important to remember He is with us.

Sometimes, He offers us a big branch to pull us out of the mess and muck. Muddied, we have a testimony to encourage others during their trials. Other times, God uses it to move us to where we are more effective, sometimes even to pull us away from sinful behavior.

However, God invites us to move closer to a deeper relationship with Him through every holy interruption.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you that even when I feel scared, stuck, and inconvenienced, You are with me and will never leave me alone. Amen

I cry aloud to the LORD; I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy. I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way. Psalms 142:1-7
