Woman looking toward a bright horizon

Daily Devotional • Revelation 21:4 • Hope Beyond Today

Some days, hope means believing that tomorrow can be better. But Revelation 21:4 points us to an even greater hope—the promise of a day when God will wipe away every tear and sorrow will be no more. Whatever you're facing today, your story doesn't end here.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain...”

- Revelation 21:4

The world we live in can be a brutal and terrible place. Things that should never happen, do. I have family and friends walking through heartbreak and grief that makes no sense to me as a believer. In my own life, I have questioned God why on more than one occasion.

Yet, as believers, our hope reaches beyond this present life. While God cares deeply about our struggles today, He also invites us to fix our eyes on eternity. One day every tear will be wiped away, every broken heart restored, and every injustice made right. That promise gives us strength to persevere through today's hardships.

Eternal hope doesn't mean that we ignore our present pain. Rather, eternal hope gives our pain purpose. We can endure because we know this world is not our final home. Christ has already secured the victory, and the day is coming when hope will become sight. When we will be reunited with those we have lost and loved. It will be a time when all heartache and fear will be wiped away. There will be no more pain and no more suffering. Until then, we live with confidence, trusting that the best is still to come.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the eternal hope I have through Jesus. Help me keep my eyes fixed on Your promises whenever life feels overwhelming. Fill me with courage, joy, and unwavering hope as I follow You. Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd

Some seasons leave us longing for the day when things will finally be made right.

We carry grief, disappointment, unanswered questions, and hurts that don't simply disappear. And while we may not have answers for everything we're facing today, Revelation 21:4 gives us something incredibly precious: a promise about tomorrow.

God is not finished.

There is a day coming when He will wipe away every tear, and the pain we know today will not last forever.

Take a few moments to let that promise settle into your heart.

Open your journal and write about what you're carrying today.

Then give yourself permission to look beyond the present moment and reflect on the hope God has promised.

Your circumstances may be part of your story.

But they are not the end of your story.

Journal & Reflect - Hope Beyond What You Can See

  • What are you carrying today that feels difficult or painful? Write honestly about the situation, loss, disappointment, or unanswered prayer that has been weighing on your heart.
  • What does it mean to you that God sees every tear? Take a moment to consider the tenderness of a God who sees your pain and promises that sorrow will not last forever.
  • What are you hoping God will restore? Write about something you long to see made right. Bring that longing honestly before God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding me that today is not the end of my story.

When life hurts, help me hold onto Your promises. When I am grieving, meet me with Your comfort. When I don't understand what You're doing, help me trust that You are still working.

Thank You for seeing every tear and knowing every place where my heart hurts.

Give me the faith to look beyond what I can see and hold onto the hope You have promised.

Help me live today with eternity in my heart—not ignoring the pain of this life, but remembering that pain will not last forever.

Until the day when You make all things new, keep my heart anchored in You.

Thank You for being my hope today and forever.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Message from Kara

Some seasons hurt more than we know how to put into words.

There are things we wish we could change, prayers we wish had been answered differently, and moments we wish we could go back and rewrite.

I've been reminded that our faith doesn't require us to pretend those things don't hurt.

We can grieve.

We can ask questions.

We can cry.

And we can still have hope.

Revelation 21:4 reminds us that God sees every tear—and that one day, He will wipe them all away.

I love that this promise doesn't ask us to ignore today. Instead, it reminds us that today isn't all there is.

So if you're walking through a difficult season, be gentle with yourself. Bring your heart to God. Write down what you're feeling. Hold onto His promises.

And remember that the valleys we walk through today are not the end of the story.

There is hope beyond today.

I'm praying that promise brings you comfort and peace.

With Love,
Kara
