Soft seasonal landscape with changing leaves

Daily Devotional • Ecclesiastes 3:1 • Don't Rush the Season

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that God is never late and never early. There is a time for everything, and His timing is good.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”

- Ecclesiastes 3:1

We are always trying to rush something. We want summer when it's fall. We want Friday when it's Monday. We want the answer before we're ready. We want the next chapter before we've finished the current one.

But God created seasons for a reason. What if you're not supposed to be somewhere else right now? What if this season—even the difficult one—is exactly where God wants to meet you?

We can miss today's blessings because we're so focused on tomorrow. But grace is available today: lessons to learn and people to love. There are opportunities to serve others. So, don't rush through a season simply because you're uncomfortable. Ask God to help you live it well.

Because someday you may look back and realize that the season you couldn't wait to leave was the season God used to change you the most.

What season are you eager to get through? What might you miss if you rush through it?

How can you live faithfully today?

Prayer: God, help me stop rushing through my life. Give me grace to live fully in the season You have given me. Teach me what You want me to learn and help me trust You with what comes next.  Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd

If you feel tempted to hurry what God is still unfolding, take a breath and remember: the season you are in is not wasted. God is not asking you to force what He has not yet finished. He is inviting you to trust Him in the waiting. Sometimes we rush because we are tired of uncertainty.

Sometimes we rush because we long for relief. But Ecclesiastes 3:1 gently reminds us that there is a time for everything — and that includes this season, exactly as it is.

Use the journaling prompts below to reflect on where you may be pushing ahead of God, what He may be teaching you in the waiting, and how you can rest in His timing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Ecclesiastes 3:1 mean?

Ecclesiastes 3:1 teaches that God has appointed a time for every season of life. It reminds us that nothing is random and that His timing is purposeful.

Why is waiting so hard?

Waiting is hard because it often asks us to release control and trust what we cannot yet see. It can stir up anxiety, impatience, and the desire to force results.

How can I stop rushing what God is doing?

Begin by slowing down in prayer and reminding yourself that God is not late. Focus on faithfulness in today rather than trying to manage the whole future.

What if I’m afraid I’m wasting time?

You are not wasting time when you are walking with God. Even in waiting, He is working in you, shaping your heart, and preparing what comes next.

Prayer

Lord,

Help me not to rush what You are still unfolding. Teach me to trust that Your timing is wise, Your pace is loving, and Your season for me is good. When I feel anxious or impatient, remind me that You are present in the waiting. Give me peace to stay faithful today and rest in what You are doing behind the scenes.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Message from Kara

If you’re feeling the pressure to hurry, I want to gently remind you that you do not have to outrun God’s timing. I know how hard it can be to wait when your heart wants clarity, progress, or relief right now. But I have found that some of God’s most beautiful work happens when we stop striving long enough to let Him lead.

My prayer for you is that this devotional helps you release the need to rush and gives you peace to trust the season you’re in. God is not overlooking you. He is with you, and He is faithful in every step.

With Love,
Kara
