When leaves fall from a tree, they don't simply disappear. Eventually, they become part of the soil, returning to the earth. What looked like an ending becomes part of the process that supports new growth. Isn't that a beautiful picture of redemption?
Sometimes things in our lives end: a friendship, a relationship, a job, a dream. Our lives have seasons to them. We go through jobs, schooling, our children growing up, empty nests, and losing people we love. At first, all we can see is what we've lost. But God sees what can come from it. He can use what ended to nourish what is beginning. He can take our experiences and use them to give wisdom to someone else. He can take our pain and develop compassion. He can use our failures to teach us humility. When we open our hearts to what God can do, nothing surrendered is wasted. He can take our losses and deepen our dependence on Him. While none of us want to go through suffering, we know it is a part of life. However, God can use it for good.
God can use every circumstance in our lives—even our pain, hardships, and mistakes—to shape us and draw us closer to Him. Though we may not always understand what He is doing, we can trust that He is sovereign and faithfully working through every season for our ultimate good and His eternal purpose.
Even the leaves have a purpose. And so does your story. How can God use it for His glory today? Is there a circumstance you are struggling to understand? Ask God to show you His goodness through it. Can you trust Him with what you cannot yet understand?
Prayer: Father, help me trust You with every ending. When I can't see the purpose, remind me that You can use everything for good. Take even the painful parts of my story and use them for Your glory. Amen. Amen.
