Have you ever thought about God and how He is the one true light? When Moses went up on the mountain top to meet with God, he came back completely changed physically. (Exodus 34:28). God's glory was so overwhelming that it left a visible effect on Moses. Moses face shone! The light wasn't Moses' own; it reflected God’s glory and holiness. The shining face was evidence that Moses had encountered the living God.
The Israelites were afraid to approach Moses because they recognized something extraordinary had happened (Exodus 34:30). Moses’ radiance confirmed that the words he brought were not his own. He had received God's covenant and commandments directly from Him.
Moses face was shone brightly after each meeting with God, so much so that he would put a veil over his face after speaking to the Israelites. Whenever he returned to God's presence, he removed the veil, and when he came back out, his face shone again (Exodus 34:33–35).
What does this mean for believers today? The New Testament uses Moses' experience as a picture of what God does in believers' lives. In 2 Corinthians 3:18, Paul the Apostle writes: "And we all... beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another."
Unlike Moses' radiance, which gradually faded, Paul says that through Christ, believers are continually transformed from the inside out by the Holy Spirit. The change is not usually visible as a physical glow, but it is seen in a life increasingly marked by Christ's character, love, humility, holiness, joy, and peace.
Moses reminds us that time spent with God changes us. We may not come away with a shining face, but genuine fellowship with Him leaves its mark on our hearts, our attitudes, and the way we treat others. We then become God’s light to others so that they will discover Him also.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being the Light in every dark season. Shine Your truth into my heart and help me walk confidently, knowing that Your light will never be overcome. Amen.

Darkness can make us feel like we can't see what comes next.
