But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

- Matthew 6:33

What does it mean to seek God’s kingdom and righteousness first?

It means that we put God first in our lives!

We turn to Him for help before anything else.

I have often made a situation worse by following my own ideas, thoughts, or reasoning before consulting the Lord. When we seek God first, we align our minds with His Word. We obey, follow and serve Him in everything we do.

But how does that work in our everyday lives?

We serve those around us with the attitude of Christ: being honest, kind, and upright in all we do.

It is so easy to put our desires, goals, and others in the place God should hold. When we put anything else in God’s place, those things become an idol.

Is there anything holding God’s place in your life today? Ask God to help you recognize where you have let other things slip into His place. Seek to put Him first; He will add so much to your life!

Prayer: Lord, it goes against my natural self to put you above everything else. Please help me to prioritize you and keep you first in my life. Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd
