How Do I Know That God Cares About Me?

How Do I Know That God Cares About Me?

I remember as if it happened yesterday.

Seated in a large conventional hall along with 3,000 of my fellow pastor’s wives, I head this story for the first time. The speaker was author and speaker Beth Moore. She began to describe to us what it was like to hear her sweet momma pray.

Rather than end her prayers in a regular old, “Amen,” Beth’s mom would close out her prayers with her name and address. It was as if she thought God might need her location so He could find her. He had so many people to keep up with that she was helping Him out.

It’s both a sweet and a sad story because Beth’s momma is not the only person who feels this way.

Many, many people look at God as some remote deity who may or may not really know what is happening on earth. And, to think that God would know or care about the intimate details of your life or of mine, that would be silly. Right?

  • Doesn’t God have a big galaxy to run?
  • Doesn’t He have millions of people to consider and keep up with?
  • Isn’t He busy and preoccupied with bigger issues than you and me and our little problems?

It would be easy to think this way.

But, it’s not biblical.

When we search the pages of the Bible, we actually find just the opposite. God is actually very interested in the details of all of our little lives and powerful enough to keep up with the location of every single soul on this planet! He doesn’t misplace us or forget our address.

How do I know this?

What are 3 ways I know that God cares about us?

First, He Sees Us and Never Loses Sight of Us.

Do you remember the story of Sarah and Hagar?

They were two women living in the pages of Genesis. Sarah was unable to conceive and have a baby. So, she took her servant Hagar and married her to her husband Abraham to act as a sort of surrogate mother.

This was a custom of that day—not a good one—but an allowable custom. According to the Life Application Bible notes:

“A married woman who could not have children was shamed by her peers and required to give a female servant to her husband in order to produce heirs. The children born to the servant woman were considered the children of that wife.”

For Sarah and Abraham, this didn’t work out so well. God had promised them a child, but they wouldn’t wait. They circumvented God’s plans and caused all sort of heartache for their family.

Sarah ended up hating Hagar and treating her with contempt. When Hagar had finally had enough, she ran out into the desert—pregnant and alone. It was in this desert place that she found out she had a God who could see her and her horrible predicament.

In Genesis 16, the angel of the Lord sought out Hagar to help her, encourage her, and to give her direction. Hagar named this place, the well of “the God who SEES me.”

God sees us! He sees. He knows. He understands. He is aware!

Psalm 33:13-15 tells us:

“The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race.
From his throne he observes all who live on the earth.
He made their hearts so he understands everything they do.”

Be encouraged by this – Your God sees you! He has never lost sight of you, and He never will!

Second, God has counted the very hairs on our heads.

We are told in both Matthew 10:30 and Luke 12:7,

“What’s the price of two or three pet canaries? Some loose change, right? But God never overlooks a single one. And he pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head!”

God knows how much or how little hair you have. He knows what upsets your stomach and causes your head to ache. Your God knows when you wake up and when you finally go to sleep at night. Check out Psalm 139 for more great encouragement on this topic.

Consider the example of Google and search engines like it. From the data you enter online, Google can discover where you like to eat, what you like to purchase, your age, your location, your gender, and a whole lot of even more personal stuff. Google is clued in to your habits and your spending. They make lots of money by being aware.

God is even more powerful and knowledgeable than Google. And, He can keep up with everything without a computer or a cell phone or any other device. He doesn’t have to place “cookies” on your computer to know what you prefer and what you are up to. He is just aware.

Be encouraged by this - God created you and He is intimately interested in you and in the details of your life. He deeply cares about you.

Finally, God loved us loved us so much that He sent Jesus to us.

In case you need a little more evidence of God’s love for you, I would add this final point. Not only are we told that God sees us and is intimately acquainted with all of our ways.

The Bible teaches that God proved His love to us with a gift.

We read in Romans 5:8, But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

You may not feel loved today by any other person on this planet. But, can I tell you that your Creator adores you?

And, because of His great affection for you, He sent Jesus to die in your place.

Be encouraged by this – Your God loves you! You matter to Him so much that He sent His only Son to die in your place!

How should you respond to this love?

Romans 10:10-11, 13 lay it out clearly:

“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

What Can You Take Away Today?

First, remember that God sees you! He never loses sight of you!

Second, remember that God has counted every single hair on your head.

Third, remember that God loves you so much He sent Jesus to die for you.

And, when you pray… don’t worry about giving your name and address. God already has them
