“Be still and know that I am God.”
- Psalm 46:10
In the fall, trees begin preparing for rest. The leaves fall, and growth slows. They almost appear still. But stillness doesn't mean nothing is happening. Sometimes rest is preparation. That stillness before God also doesn’t mean nothing is happening; it means we are listening for His voice and trusting His control.
Do you have difficulty being still? Most of us struggle to slow down and rest. We feel guilty when we're not producing. We should always be doing something. But even creation has a rhythm of work and rest. God created Sabbath. He created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. Jesus withdrew from the crowds. Rest isn't laziness. It is trust. When we rest, we're acknowledging that the world doesn't depend entirely on us.
God can work while we sleep, provide while we pause, and move while we are still. Perhaps you're exhausted because you've been trying to carry something God never asked you to carry alone. Maybe this season is an invitation to slow down, breathe, pray, be still, and remember that God is God and we are not. We can trust Him with our heart’s desires.
Are you exhausted and struggling to rest without feeling guilty? What would it look like to trust Jesus with your need today? Can you sit quietly and honor Him and His power? He calls you to Himself and asks you to stop striving and instead trust Him with your life.
Prayer: Jesus, teach me to rest. Help me release the need to constantly accomplish and remind me that You are still working when I am still. Restore my body, mind, and spirit, and help me trust You enough to slow down. Amen.

If your heart has been racing, your mind has been full, or your soul has felt stretched thin, this is your invitation to stop striving and come quietly before the Lord. Like trees that bend, wait, and remain rooted through changing seasons, you are also invited to rest in God’s care.
Being still does not mean nothing is happening. It means you are choosing to trust the One who holds everything together. Take a few slow breaths, unclench your hands, and let your heart settle in His presence.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Psalm 46:10 mean?
Psalm 46:10 is God’s invitation to stop striving and remember that He is in control. It calls us to be still, trust Him, and recognize His authority and presence.
Why is rest important spiritually?
Rest helps us slow down enough to remember that God is God and we are not. It creates room for trust, peace, and renewal in our relationship with Him.
What if I don’t know how to rest?
Start small. Sit quietly with God for a few minutes, pray honestly, and release one burden at a time. Rest is often learned through practice and grace.
Is being still the same as giving up?
No. Being still before God is an act of faith, not defeat. It means trusting His power, His timing, and His care more than your own effort.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for inviting me to be still and know that You are God. When my heart feels restless, anxious, or overwhelmed, help me release what I cannot control. Teach me to rest in Your presence, to trust Your care, and to remember that You are working even when I pause. Quiet my soul and root me in Your peace.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Message from Kara
This devotional is for the moments when you feel like you have to hold everything together. I know how easy it is to live in a constant state of doing, solving, and carrying more than we were meant to carry. But Psalm 46:10 gently reminds us that rest is not only allowed — it is holy.
The trees do not panic when the seasons change. They remain rooted. They receive what they need. They wait. And I think there is something beautiful for us to learn there. My prayer is that this devotional gives your soul permission to slow down, breathe, and rest in the presence of the God who never leaves you.
With Love,
Kara
