Daily Devotional • John 16:33 • Hope Because Christ Has Overcome Reading Daily Devotional • Matthew 5:14–16 • Living as a Messenger of Hope 6 minutes

“You are the light of the world... let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

- Matthew 5:14–16

Hope was never meant to stop with us. God fills our hearts with His hope so that we can become a source of encouragement to others. Every kind word, every prayer offered, every act of compassion, and every testimony of God's faithfulness points someone else toward Christ.

The world desperately needs people whose lives reflect the hope of the Gospel. You don't have to have all the answers to make a difference. Simply sharing how God has been faithful in your own life can inspire someone else to keep believing. As you walk with Jesus each day, your life becomes a beacon of hope that draws others to Him.

Today, ask God to bring to mind those in your life that He might want you to share His Gospel of peace with. Pray for God to make a way for you to speak from the heart to them.

May you remember that hope is not found in perfect circumstances but in a perfect Savior. The God who has been faithful throughout history is the same God walking beside you today, and He desires that all might come to know Him. When life feels uncertain, may His promises steady your heart. When the road is long, may His presence strengthen your soul. And when hope seems distant, may you lift your eyes to Jesus, the One who is our living hope.

May you leave this journey with renewed confidence that God is always working, always present, and always faithful. Your story is still being written, and because Christ has overcome, hope will always have the final word. Go today and share that hope with someone else.

Prayer: Father, thank You for filling my heart with lasting hope. Help me be a light to those around me and use my life to encourage others to trust You. May my words, actions, and faith point people to the hope that is found only in Jesus. Amen.

Sherry Shepherd

Growth rarely happens all at once - it happens in small, faithful moments.  Matthew 5:14–16 gives us a picture of what that growth can look like.

Seek. Practice. Grow one day at a time.

You don't have to have it all figured out to take the next step closer to God. Take a few moments now to consider where you'd like to grow. Open your journal and write down one habit or posture you sense God inviting you into. Then take one small step toward it today.

Let curiosity become discipline.
Let discipline become rhythm.
And let your daily life become a place where you continually grow deeper in Him.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DOES MATTHEW 5:14–16 TEACH US ABOUT SPIRITUAL GROWTH?

Matthew 5:14–16 reminds us that we're not meant to walk through this alone. The passage gives us a way to respond: turn toward God, talk to Him, and continue trusting Him with what is outside our control.

HOW CAN I MAKE SPIRITUAL GROWTH PART OF MY DAILY ROUTINE?

Set aside a few consistent minutes each day - morning or evening - to read a short passage, reflect, and write down what comes to mind. Consistency matters more than length.

WHAT SHOULD I WRITE IN A SPIRITUAL GROWTH JOURNAL?

You might record what you're learning, questions you're wrestling with, verses that stood out, or small ways you noticed God at work in your day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today, I open my hands to however You want to grow me.
Help me show up consistently, even in the small and ordinary moments.
Give me patience with the process instead of rushing toward the outcome.
Guard my heart from comparing my growth to anyone else's.
Not because change happens overnight, but because I know You are faithful to finish what You start.
Teach me to seek You daily and to keep returning to You when I drift.
Thank You for walking with me in this season.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Message from Kara

Am I making any progress? Why does this feel so slow? Will I ever really change?

Matthew 5:14–16 reminds me that growth is a process, not a single moment. I can pause and keep showing up. I can trust that small, faithful steps matter even when I can't see the full picture yet.

That doesn't mean growth feels dramatic every day. Sometimes it's quiet and slow. And that's okay.

You are growing.
You are being shaped.
And this season is not wasted.

I'm praying that God gives you patience and joy in the process today.

With Love,
Kara 🤍
